"I'm not a writer." "Yes, you are."

“I’m not a writer.” “Yes, you are.”

Drop into your magic ✨

*Originally dated May 19, 2023

Did you miss me?! I have missed connecting with you, that's for sure. Between my spring semester workload and the deep internal work that has been percolating, I had very little energy to devote to my business. Thankfully I have taken the Taurus by the horns and signed up for a program to get up and running again. Just in time for Jupiter to enter Taurus and today's new moon!

How have you been so far in 2023? It's been a roller coaster out there so I hope you're strapped in tightly to your spiritual seat. The buckle may loosen a bit but my practices are what have helped to keep me flowing (and going when I lose the flow).

What's helped you?

And now, onto the tarot, we have …

the Ten of Wands, reversed 🪄

It is time to drop the heavy shit, my friend! Wands represent the element of fire - passion, drive, creativity, the stuff that lights you up and gets you out of bed. Sometimes the things that once lit you up don't land the same way and it starts to get exhausting carrying the load.

You can always set down the things that no longer serve you. If it has become a burden rather than a blessing, take a moment to reconsider how you want to relate to that thing. It could be anything - people, places, habits, beliefs, jobs, industries, and a million other things. It's definitely something that lit a fire for you at some point but no longer does. What is it for you?

What do you need to drop in order to drop into your magic? Let me know. I'm curious!

Choose your family with your magic ✨

Happy New Year, my magical friend! You've made it this far and the New Year is upon us. How did you ring in the change in the calendar? I spent the weekend exactly as I'd hoped and said a fond farewell to the gem of a holiday show that I've been working on this season.

It's a new calendar year, but I find myself feeling not all that different than I did last week. Change can be like that, it feels very slow going and then all at once you notice the difference. The reflecting I've been doing over the last few weeks helped me see the small changes adding up and I'm excited to see what is ahead for this year.

Do you know what is ahead for you? How about exploring it with me through a  New Year's Reading package? You'll get a 13 card New Year reading with two 30-minute follow up readings to get some info on what your heart and gut have in store for your this year. Click here to book!

And now, onto the tarot ✨

We have …

the Ten of Cups, reversed!

Signifying family and a fullness of heart and love, the Ten of Cups doesn't require family to be blood. Chosen family is as valid as any other definition and you're invited to interpret it for yourself.

The reversal here tells me that you are reconsidering what family looks like or means, who is called family, and what you require of the people who are among your family. These are all decisions that you must make, and then uphold. If someone doesn't act accordingly, they can still be family but perhaps their access changes.

Last summer a friend of mine had a major medical event that sent her down a path of reconsidering who gets to sit as her most intimate tables. As she was telling me about this experience of reconfiguring boundaries, it reminded me of security clearance. The people closest to you get the highest clearance, and if folks aren't behaving like family, their clearance level has to change. Maybe they are at 1 or 2, down from 5 or 6.

So make that decision for yourself, who is family and how high is their clearance? In order to bask in the glow of the Ten of Cups, you first have to determine the invite list for your life.

If you are looking for some clarity on your upcoming ring around the sun, schedule your New Year reading package to get some info on what your heart and gut have in store for you! Click here to book.

Ride the wave of your magic ✨

Happy Kwanzaa, my magical friend! How are you doing now that we're in that weird week when no one really wants to do anything and we're all still eating leftovers and takeout. What a time to be alive! 🤣

I was supposed to spend the holiday with family in Pittsburgh, but with the blizzard moving through the northeast, my parents asked us to stay safely in place in NYC. I was sad to miss the holiday with them, and the extended family/pandemic babies that I don't get to see so much, but it's been a beautiful reminder to find magic in everything and embrace spontaneity when things don't go as planned.

And to show you some love from NYC, I wanted to remind you of the opportunity to check in with yourself for the upcoming calendar year - I'm offering a package that includes a 13 card New Year reading with two 30-minute follow up readings to get some info on what your heart and gut have in store for your next year. Click here to book!

And now, onto the tarot ✨

We have …

the King of Cups!

Looking a little like Professor Xavier, the King of Cups is seated in his watery throne as captain of your heart, intuition, emotions, and feelings. His emotional maturity is epic, and the ability to sit with any weather that passes through his heart is one of his superpowers.

Are there emotional weather patterns that you're moving through right now? This time of year can be rife with challenges and triggers from the people we love and strangers alike. The turbulent oceans of humanity's collective feelings can be a lot to bear, so take a moment with yourself to quietly listen to the storm. You don't have to ride every wave that begins to crest.

As we get closer and closer to the end of the calendar year, I am continuing the reflection from last week, but also looking ahead to see what waves I am choosing to ride into 2023. What are you excited to pile on your boogie board and bring to shore? If you don't know or are unclear on how to explore your upcoming ring around the sun, schedule your New Year reading package to get some info on what your heart and gut have in store for you! Reflect on your magic✨

Happy solstice, my magical friend! Even though the sunset has gotten a bit later since last week, we mark the shortest day of the calendar year and as an annual new moon of sorts releasing things that we don't want to take into the New Year. The Capricorn new moon on Friday is another great time to do that!

I'm still in the thick of finals for my first semester of grad school, and grateful to spend a bit of time reflecting on how much things have changed over 2022. The new people and community, new experiences and opportunities, the longing for certain ways of being that didn't serve me but were familiar and comfortable. Evolution is work.

But work doesn't always have to be hard. It can be easy and enlightening! Are you ready to do some work in 2023? How about a package of readings to kick off the calendar? I'm offering a 13 card New Year reading with two 30-minute follow up readings to get some info on what your heart and gut have in store for your next year. Click here to book!

And now, onto the tarot ✨

We have …

the Father of Wands, reversed!

The Father of Wands is the pinnacle of the fiery suit representing your passion, creativity, ideas, the things that light you up and get you out of bed. This is BDE at its finest, one who knows how to use his tools and resources for creation or destruction, for building or demolishing.

Seeing the reversal of the king of fire, I'm reminded of a reading I did this weekend with a fabulous witchy friend (you know who you are!) where we talked about the cycle of the court cards. While each card represents the qualities of their position, there is also an evolution from one to the next. The childlike page grows into the adolescent knight, which evolves into the nurturing queen, and finally into the grounded and providing king. (Yes, I am very aware of the gender binary and archaic roles that are laid out in the tarot.)

But this idea of evolving, of cycles, is so present as we step into these last days of 2022. Take the time to look back at your own evolution. Where has your passion shifted? What new places of power are you finding within yourself? Reply and let me know.

And if you're interested in exploring what's ahead for you,  schedule your New Year reading package to get some info on what your heart and gut have in store for you next year. Click here to book!

Balancing your magic ✨

Hiya, my magical friend! How is your December going so far? Can you believe it will be 2023 in 4 weeks? Does time feel like it moves differently for you these days too? I swear its elasticity is real!

In these hectic last few weeks of the calendar year, I am working to enjoy life in moderation (something that is a struggle for me all year round). Making the time for the things that are “required,” the people I love, and the space for relationship with myself is a juggle, and it also helps me center myself.

This brings me to our tarot today - but first, I'm still looking to hear from you about your relationship with tarot. Are you open to sharing?

Click here to spill the beans!

And now, onto the tarot ✨

We have …

the Two of Coins!

The Two of Coins is all about balance. This one is reversed, so we're going to go with my favorite inversion interpretation of the internal expression of the card. It's about balance within yourself and for yourself. How do you find the equilibrium when we're flitting about this time of year?

When the butterfly emerges from its cocoon, its wings must harden before it can take off. This is one of the most vulnerable times in a butterfly's life. Fly too soon and your wings won't be as strong, but the risks of staying in one place can mean life or death.

As we dive further into the chaos of holiday season, notice where your wings could be a bit stronger and where you can risk some softness with yourself. You can have both!

Ačiū✨

Emily

Have you ever chosen to spend a holiday alone? I did!

Happy Holidays from a solo retreat upstate, my magical friend! Yes, while most people were seeing their families over the holiday, I hung out with myself. No obligations, no expectations, nowhere to be. A treasure! I read research papers on tarot, did homework, and got caught up. It was perfect.

How have you been? It has been far longer than I like, I've been struggling with time scarcity 🫠

Listening to myself has become crucial. It's wild, how the practices that help me function in the city aren't as vital when surrounded by nature (and a wood burning fireplace!). I did spend time with my tarot cards and drew a fabulous Sagittarius new moon spread. It was a powerful reading that gave me clarity and direction around my next month. Don't you love that feeling?!

Speaking of feelings about tarot, the research continues for my classwork and I'd love to learn your thoughts on using tarot for clarity and direction. Mind sharing in a quick survey? Click here to tell me what you think!

And now, onto the tarot ✨

We have …

the Nine of Coins!

The Nine of Coins represents established, healthy streams of wealth and resources. Having the material abundance to care for yourself and share with your community.

What an apt sentiment for a troubled holiday. I wrote on Instagram about my complicated feelings around Thanksgiving. It’s always been my favorite because I was taught about the gathering, the food, and the gratitude, the bloodshed was diminished. Little did I know that the indigenous folks who were here for the first western-acknowledged thanksgiving had been holding communal harvest feasts for generations.

The sacrifices and shortcomings of those who came before us are why we’re each sitting here in this moment. Our own are added to the story. May we work towards collective healing by doing the work ourselves and inviting each other to our tables.

Ačiū✨

Make space for your magic ✨

Hello, my magical friend! How are you? I am basking in the love that surrounded a dear friend as she said I do this weekend. It is such a gift to witness the intertwining of lives.

That's something I've been working on myself, intertwining all of my own lives. From the person I was at various phases of my life, to my current identities as tarot reader and recovering Broadway publicist, balancing and connecting it all can be really overwhelming.

I learned that lesson the hard way last week when my sleep schedule was interrupted, making my usual morning routine impossible. It was pretty brutal seeing the result of skipping my meditation, self-hypnosis, altar ritual, and journaling. But the beautiful part was seeing how quickly an 8-minute meditation, tarot pull, and good cry helped to release the burden I felt. What do you do to release your burdens?

And now, onto the tarot ✨

We have …

the Death card!

August: Osage County (yes, that's the cat's name) so beautifully displays the Death card for us - how appropriate for the kickoff of Scorpio season, especially with this new moon eclipse tomorrow! The Death card is one that you might be scared of, but there is nothing to fear. It doesn't mean death in the way you think.

Death is all about releasing the things that no longer serve you. The end of an era, or a belief system, or a way of doing things. New life cannot be sustained without death, so if there are things that you want to invite in, you must create the space for them.

This process is not easy, grief and pain will inevitably creep in, but so might delight and a lightness of being. What do you need to release to welcome in something new?

Comment and let me know, I really do want to hear from you! And I'm still looking for folks to talk to me about spirituality, so fill out the form and I'll hit you up. Witnessing your journey would be an honor.

Hello, my magical friend! How was your weekend? I headed upstate with my brother for a couple of nights to get some of that good Mother Nature medicine and it was GLORIOUS! Getting to tap into my intuition with the elements always leaves me refreshed and reconnected.

Speaking of intuition, shoutout to Business Insider for including my love for Rachel True's True Heart Intuitive Tarot in their roundup “The 9 best books for learning tarot, according to professional readers!” It is one of my favorite decks for intuitive reading, and the guidebook includes incredible stories that relate to each card. You can hear Ms. True telling them!

And now, onto the tarot ✨

We have …

the Queen of Wands!

The Queen of Wands, courtesy of the Dior deck, is that impassioned womxn that takes no bullshit and is always ready to protect what she loves. Wands represent the element of fire - your drive, creativity, the things that get you out of bed, your spark of creation (iykyk)!

So what lights you up? Where is that fire in your life? Where do you need to stoke it and invite it in? The exuberance of fire is contagious in the best way, where can you use that sparkle to soar?

Hello, my magical friend! Happy Autumn Equinox and Libra season to you 🍁

We have …

the Queen of Coins, reversed!

Using the Rider Waite Smith deck today, the Queen of Coins (or Pentacles or Discs) tends her garden with affection and attention - what flows, grows and when you water the seeds that you've planted you discover your innate ability to furnish your own material needs. (She is the mother of our earth element - the physical, material, and the manifest 🌱)

Are there projects or ideas that you started working on, but have set aside? This is the perfect opportunity to pick them back up and nourish your crops, between my inversion interpretation pointing to your internal experience, and the SIX planet retrograde we're currently experiencing, the revisiting vibes are strong! (I'm right there with you from this side of the screen doing the same damn thing 🤣)

So what parts of your garden have grown wild over the last few months? Why did you let them slide? Where can you show those parts of yourself love and care? Comment and let me know what you are going to revive (like I'm reviving this writing 🖍)

Support your magic ⛵️

Dobryj den, my magical friend! Sending you love from a train enroute to Maine. I'm headed to visit a dear friend who traded in the hectic NYC lifestyle for an island off the coast of Portland. Lobster rolls, beach walks, puppy cuddles, daydreams, and board games await!

Talk about abundance - that Nine of Coins energy from last week is really showing itself with the bounty of leisure ahead for me. Where did you find wealth in your own life? Did you recognize the moments where your self-reliance, self-discipline, and self-motivation broke through? (This train ride is doing it for me, I always get SO much work done on the train!)

Onto this week's tarot ✨

We have …

the Nine of Coins, reversed!

Back to the Rider Waite Smith deck, and the Nine of Coins for the second week in a row! This one is reversed, which I generally like to interpret as the internal expression of the card, a delay in experiencing what the card says, or perhaps something that needs to be dropped from your life.

Since we spoke last week about the focus of the Nine of Coins on the self, this reading inspired me to consider the external supports and systems that we utizile to make that internal work possible.

While you indeed have everything you need already within you, where could you use support? Are there pockets of your life where your reliance on yourself exhausts and depletes you? Moments where you let it all hang out and throw the discipline out the window? Are these experiences helpful or hurtful or a combination of those and more? Comment and let me know!

Grüß Gott, my magical friend! Happy Lion's Gate Portal to you - 8.8! A fabulous day to consider what your dream life looks like, and what changes you'd need to manifest that life. Anything is possible.

Did that Seven of Wands defensive energy pop up for you last week? I had to defend some boundaries that I've sent over the last few years with people from my life who I haven't seen in a while. I'm still not sure how well I did…but it's a practice and next time I'll do better.

What did you have to defend? Anything you're willing to share with me?

Onto this week's tarot ✨

We have …

the Nine of Coins!

Back to the Wild Unknown deck and a celebration of the abundance in your life! Coins (also called pentacles or discs) represent the physical, material, and manifest. Whether you're rolling in the dough or figuring out how to make ends meet, the Nine of Coins asks you to recognize your self-reliance, self-discipline, and self-motivation - how perfect for the Lion's Gate.

You already have everything you need inside of you - own it! Recognizing the ebb and flow of your physical requirements will help you see how much you're able to provide yourself and where you need to find support.

Which resources are you overlooking and which are you overusing? How much are you able to do yourself? Where do you need help? Comment and let me know!

Manifest your magic,

Emily

Defend your magic 🛡

Oh hey, my magical friend! Coming to you from Monday night at almost 11.30, and very much ok with the seesaw of consistency in writing to you every week. Sometimes I remember to write on Monday morning, other times it's the Wednesday prior. Today, it's Monday night 🤷🏻‍♀️

That Nine of Swords proved itself present in many ways this past week, but I continued to search for hope and joy despite the situations. It's not always easy, but it's always worth it.

Onto this week's tarot ✨

We have …

the Seven of Wands!

Back to the Rider Waite Smith deck and the passion that is ignited in our lives. The Seven of Wands is all about the D.

Defense! 👀

We see the figure on a cliff pointing a wand down towards six other wands that could be held by adversaries or they could be defensive measures that are being fortified or they could be something else - it's all in your perspective. What do you see?

When you're feeling attacked you have every right to stand up for yourself, but beware of inserting your fiery responses into others' situations. If you're not directly involved, take a step back.

Where are you finding yourself having to play defense? Are you protecting something that isn't yours to secure? Reply and let me know!

Celebrate your magic 🎉

Ẹ n lẹ, my magical friend! It's my birthday week and I'm already feeling the love ❣️

Did you find moments of truth last week with the Seven of Swords energy? Was light shed in unexpected places? What about your own honesty?

I've discovered that the more I am willing to live from a place of authenticity and truth, the more likely I am to be met by people who are doing the same. Will you meet me there?

And so, onto this week's tarot ✨

We have …

the Six of Wands!

Welcome to the True Heart Intuitive Tarot by the brilliant Rachel True! Here we see an adorned bird and its bountiful nest in an open palm. Six wands surround its crowned head, and six shadow birds with eyes on their wings soar around the image. Tucked into the nest we see treasures of a coin, flower, and a single dice that landed on two.

The Six of Wands is a victory card, a celebration of achievement and the feeling of success. While it often accompanies the touchstone moments of triumph, are there tiny wins that you can acknowledge along the way?

What are you celebrating? How does it feel? Where are the small instances of progress? Comment and let me know!

Bring truth to your magic 🔮

As-salamu alaykum, my magical friend! Cancer season is squarely here and emotions are as bubbly as the temperatures, but you can handle it! Let the emotions come, feel the feelings, and they will pass as the energy-in-motion moves through you.

The full moon in Capricorn arrives on Wednesday inviting you to release the fixed beliefs around your heart and its capacity - there is so much more to experience and the ups and downs are the point. What story are you ready to release?

And so, onto this week's tarot ✨

We have …

the Seven of Swords, reversed!

Six swords line the wall, each with its own style and strength, while the seventh is tucked under the fox. That sly creature has kept something important to itself, sometimes to the detriment of the whole.

We've had the Seven of Swords upright, but this reversal is giving me a vibe that you're not giving the (whole) truth - you've got to be discerning in what you share with who, but it can't be with dishonesty. With vital information withheld or adjusted, the collective remains uninformed and that energy returns to you. Speak the truth and see how much easier the journey can be.

What truths have you been evading? Where can you meet them head on?

Bring truth to your magic,

Emily

Choose your magic 🫶

Kamusta, my magical friend! I'm writing to you on July 4th, and while many are enjoying a long weekend, the things that I'm celebrating have nothing to do with the “holiday” that many others are observing. For so many marginalized communities, this is another day of fighting for rights that one group has determined only apply to them.

What I choose to celebrate today is the gathering and perseverance that our global majority, LGBTQIA+, femme, and differently-abled siblings continue to practice. The love and relationships that are being built to help pull our struggling species forward as we continue evolution.

And so, onto this week's tarot ✨

We have …

The Lovers

We've had The Lovers before, in reverse. This deck is The Wild Unknown, and I love how it shows the pair of geese flying in the sun's rainbow of beams.

So often The Lovers card is confused for a romance card, but it's really about relationships and choice. What is non-negotiable? Where can you compromise? Are you choosing to betray yourself for the sake of a relationship?

This Major Arcana card reminds us that relationships can take many forms, with all sorts of flavors, and it is only up to those in that relationship to determine if the boundaries and expectations are ones that they're willing to accept or not. Relationships are giant and minuscule choices we make every day.

What choices are you making in relationship with others? What about in relationship with yourself?

Love with your magic ❣️

Did you miss me, my magical friend? I missed you, but I also needed a break after such an expansive experience as the immersion into Spirituality Mind Body Institute. And then Friday happened, and as an incredibly sensitive soul living this human existence, I needed a minute to throw the weight of the world off of myself and curl into my Cancer shell.

But how are YOU? Really, truly, reply and tell me how you are. How your heart and spirit feel, if you need support, if you celebrated Pride with a vengeance, if you totally shut down. Tell me how you're doing.

Often in moments of despair, I turn to the tarot to help me find direction or ease the burden. I invite you to join me this week.

And so, onto this week's tarot ✨

We have …

the Two of Cups

You may notice that the style of this card differs - this is from The Wild Unknown, a gorgeous deck that uses wildlife imagery. The artwork is beautiful, and here we see the two cups with roses crossing. Cups signify water (hello Cancer season!) and represent our emotions, feelings, and intuition. The two is the intimacy card (often confused as The Lovers).

This is a card of deep relationship and the importance of understanding how those relationships can offer a mirror for reflecting on our own self-perceptions. It is an invitation to connect with a clear heart.

That clarity can be really hard to find when you're moving through intense times like we are now, so take a moment and a deep breath and think about where you might have some clouds in your heart, and do this with the compassion, grace, and sensitivity that you would with your nearest and dearest.

Love with your magic,

Emily

Evolve Your Magic 🌀

Olá, my magical friend! How is your heart? There's so much happening in the world, and I'm in the midst of seismic change which can be unsettling and leave you feeling a little wounded like that Nine of Wands last week.

Thrillingly, I've started grad school at Columbia University's Teachers College in the Spirituality Mind Body Institute. Yeah, it's a mouthful, and to be honest I don't really know what I'm doing with it yet. I'm following the yeses. Where are the yeses in your life?

Onto this week's tarot ✨

We have …

the Three of Wands, reversed!

Damn! This is wild my friend! We've had the Three of Wands before without the reversal. And we talked about building foundations and moving through your challenges to explore new opportunities. This feels like an invitation to explore foundations with yourself, the things you think make you YOU.

What are those foundational ideas of identity? Where do they align? Where do they feel like vestiges of the past? The full moon in Sagittarius is tomorrow night - it is time to release the ideas at the core that no longer suit this evolved version of yourself. Send that version of you off with a party!

Your Wands (passion, drive, creativity) can evolve just like your Cups (emotions, intuition), Swords (mind, insight), and Coins (body, physical). Where are you finding evolution? Comment and let me know!

Vigilance in your magic 👀

こんにちは, my magical friend! Did you notice anything about your relationship with yourself in the last week? It is Gemini season, after all! I saw some evolution and new recognition both within and outside of me, and worked to release a bit of self-judgement from the picture.

At the end of the day, the relationship you have with yourself is the one that matters most. What has been the best part of your exploration?

Onto this week's tarot ✨

We have …

the Nine of Wands, reversed!

All of these reversals have me thinking there's something really transformative happening internally for you. Wands represent fire - your passion, drive, creativity, the things that light you up and get you out of bed.

The Nine of Wands comes towards the end of the ace through ten cycle, and we see the figure is bandaged and weary. They are keeping watch by the fence which seems to have been hard won.

What are you keeping watch for? Are you being vigilant with your attention and energy? What lessons from the journey thus far will benefit you on the next leg?

Comment and let me know if any of your life lessons you want to take with you into the future?

Vigilance in your magic,

Connect with your magic ✨

Hoi, my magical friend! How is your heart? Mine is aching with a deep throb that has felt as though it's been there for ages, and a feeling of childish helplessness. Between Buffalo and Uvalde, I really don't have any words that feel appropriate. It wasn't much, but a donation to Everytown felt like a small action to take.

Before we faced another round of back to back national trauma, I wanted to ask about your playful and curious Page of Swords vibe. The email I wrote now feels trite, but I also acknowledge that we have to keep living, despite the darkness that we face every day.

So I'm here if you want to share about how you're feeling, or tell me what you ordered for dinner. You're welcome to join me in practicing the balance between childlike wonder and the wisdom of life experience.

We have …

The Lovers, reversed

A Major Arcana card, The Lovers are often mistaken for actual lovers, romance, or long term relationships, when they represent relationships of all kinds. Yes, a romantic partner, and also your kids, your siblings, your parents, your bestie, colleagues, your boss, even YOURSELF!

That last one is what this card is giving me today - it's reversed which I often like to read as the internal expression of a card. In this particular pull, The Lovers are representative of your relationship to your higher power, to your boundaries, to your core, even to your shadows.

Where are you inviting those parts of yourself to connect, where are you avoiding the connection? Shadows can feel really gross, and it's vital to have a relationship with the parts of ourselves that we don't like - not to change our minds, but to accept the wholeness of our humanity.

Comment and let me know what this is bringing up for you, especially if it feels icky. And hug your loved ones tight.

Connect with your magic,

Emily

PS - I'm experimenting with hello in lots of languages - is there one you want to see? Tell me! Today's is Dutch, what can I say?, I'm pining for Amsterdam.

Play in your magic 🤸

안녕, my magical friend! Did you catch that Three of Wands energy? I found some things moving pretty swiftly after feeling stalled for a while which is exciting and also scary because it's been in my imagination for so long and now things are picking up speed.

So I'm taking some time to slow down, do some yoga, and connect with my body after feeling so inspired and creative. One breath at a time!

We have …

the Page of Swords, reversed!

Another Sword! The Universe has really emphasizing the mind lately, huh? Quick reminder that Swords represent Air - your mind, intellect, wisdom, communication, technology, language, anything mental. Welcome to Gemini season!

The Page of Swords is the first of the court cards and has very playful and youthful energy. In this instance, the reversal feels like the internal expression of the card - an invitation to bring a childlike energy to your interactions with yourself. Curiosity and delight allow you to explore parts of you that may not have much time in the sun.

Notice the moments you can invite play and curiosity to the party. Comment and let me know how it changes things!

Play in your magic,
Emily
